RIMES

Winnifred "Winney" Thomas was born about 1802, probably in Bulloch County, Georgia, and is likely a sister of Isham B. Thomas and Mary Thomas. Winnifred married James Rimes on February 17, 1824 in Bulloch County. James was born about 1801 in South Carolina. James and Winnifred remained in Bulloch County the rest of their lives, both dying there between 1870 and 1880.

Winnifred's identification as Isham's and Mary's sister was made through her husband being appointed guardian of Godfrey Odum. Godfrey, a minor, was orphaned when his mother, Mary Thomas Odum Kicklighter, died sometime in late 1848 or early 1849. Minutes of the Bullcoh County Court of the Ordinary (1843-1858, Vol. 4A, page 133) show James Rimes was appointed as Godfrey's guardian on May 7, 1849 and his subsequent posting of bond in September of that year (page 143).

James and Winnifred Rimes had 10 children: Narcissa, Winney, James Mannen, Isham, William Wiley, Jordan L., Andrew, Amanda, Nancy, and John M. Most of these remained in the Bulloch-Tattnall-Bryan-Liberty County area.

I do not yet have a family tree posted for the Rimes family.
